I suffer from severe back problems as a result walking is about the only exercise I can do so my weight suffers as well. Through mostly diet alone I have managed to lose some weight.I am no nutritionist but if I were to introduce more protein in my diet as in a supplement would that give me a boost in my metabolism, and increase my chances of successful/continued weight loss givin my circumstances?

Why don’t you try having a protein shake everyday. Get Whey protein powder (from any GNC or Vitamin Shope) and blend it with skim milk, and some fruit & yogurt if you’d like.
Add 2 scoops (its about 48g of protein plus the other stuff you put in ie. milk, yogurt etc.)
Good Luck!
Exercise without any fat burning emphasis will yield very poor, or slow, results.
Walking IS good exercise as it stimulates the leg muscles, but as for it effecting fat levels, well unless you walk a long way each day then it’s not going to really help you out.
You say you have a back problem, what have you tried to sort this out? You say you CAN walk, so to me that means the problem is not ‘that’ bad… (I slipped a disc @ 13 and couldn’t walk for two weeks so know about back problems, I now run daily)… I recommend that you see a chiropractor! They will advise you on any exercises you can do which will strengthen you back muscles and they will also hopefully be able to rectify your problem. Work on your weakest body areas and they will heal in time and become strong!
Diet wise, based on your post, I would say you are leading a sedentary lifestyle. So your daily calorie requirements will be considerably lower than if you were going to the gym three times a week and doing cardiovascular conditioning three or four times per week also.
I’ll assume you do not count calories or pay particular attention to what you eat. If you are overweight and not prepared/cannot exercise, you must reduce your calories to a lower amount that what your body can use. You will always have options, which is at least something you have going for you!
… start choosing healthier foods and reducing any or ALL processed foods from your diet. Drink plenty of water throughout your day. Get a good nights sleep, and avoid excessive alcohol consumption.
Ideally weigh yourself once a week, if the weight keeps going up you are eating too much. if it stays the same you’ll know to reduce your intake slightly and if it drops then you possibly ate well and should try to emulate your diet from that week for the next week, and then re-asses. A good way to assess your diet is to keep a food diary. When you need to make changes you can always look back and see what you ate!
I’m sorry to hear your back problems. I maintain my proper weight by doing physical work in the yard – pulling weeds, manually water the plants, digging and cultivating the plants. So, physical exercise is a part of it. Yes, high Protein diet helps as there are delicious Protein Bars available. The secret is a balance diet. Our body craves for more food because of the shortage of some nutrients. Our body stops craving for food when it is filled with all the necessary nutrients. One technique I use is to eat Sprouted Seeds. There’s magic in sprouting because more vitamins, more minerals and more enzymes are developed during sprouting. Your tendency is to eat less because Sprouts are very nutritious. I know also of some Proper Diet Plans as the Bistro MD and Strip That Fat. Bistro MD is prepared frozen delicious meals for dieters. Your nutritional needs are met. Strip That Fat is a bunch of information on what is good for you to maintain the ideal weight. It’s worth reading.
